A Student Pilot Licence (SPL) allows you to fly a Botswana-registered aircraft under the supervision or authority of a CAAB-approved flying instructor. It also allows you to carry out flying activities while undergoing flying training to attain higher classes of pilot licences.

To obtain a SPL, you must

  • be at least 16 years old; and
  • meet the Class 2 medical requirements.

There is no requirement needed for flying experience or completion of the knowledge examinations administered by CAAB for the initial issuance or renewal of a SPL.
