Gaborone, 10 August 2022: The Minister of Transport and Public Works, Honourable Eric Mothibi Molale this morning visited Sir Seretse Khama International Airport (SSKIA) on a familiarisation mission of Civil Aviation Authority of Botswana (CAAB). The Minister was accompanied by his Permanent Secretary Mr Kgomotso Abi and other executives of the Ministry.
Opening the meeting, CAAB Board Chairperson Basimane Bogopa provided an overview of the Organisation, its issues and its goals. Mr Bogopa also highlighted two critical ongoing projects CAAB engaged on, namely: The Certification of SSKIA and repairs of the radar system in Letlhakane. The Board Chair explained the significance of the projects stating that certifying the airport would facilitate a long-term goal of turning SSKIA into a regional competitive cargo hub. Whilst the radar system is imperative to Aviation safety and monitoring.
For his part, CAAB Chief Executive Officer Dr Bao Mosinyi provided a presentation of key operational developments expanding on the need for certification, the recent ICVM audit and the progress of the implementation of drone regulations.
The CEO also reminded the delegates on past governments commitments both domestic and international. Dr Mosinyi, urged the shareholder to support the Aviation industry as a country cannot thrive economically without a successful Aviation industry.
In his response Hon Minister Eric Molale acknowledged CAAB’s need to unbundle the regulator and the service provision. The Minister also pledged the Ministry’s full support towards efforts for certifying the Airports.
Following the conclusion of the meeting, the Ministry delegation, the CAAB board and CAAB executives were hosted by SEZA on a brief tour of the Sir Seretse Khama International Airport Special Economic Zone (SSKIA-SEZ)
