Overview

key functions of ATS Unit: To manage the airspace over the territory of Botswana and the delegated airspace over the Caprivi-Strip in Namibia, which includes:

  •  Control all traffic operating within Botswana and delegated airspaces;
  • Safe, economical and orderly flow of air traffic within Gaborone Flight Information Region;
  • Manage air traffic services facilities;
  • Oversee air traffic services in Botswana; and
  • Conduct internal investigation of ATS occurrences and develop avoidance action to mitigate recurrences.
Area Control Service
  • Area Radar Control – The service is provided to all flights operating in the Gaborone Flight Information Region.
  • Area Non Radar Control – The service complements Area Radar Control where there is no Radar coverage.
Approach Control Service
  • Approach Radar Control- The service is provided to all flights arriving and departing at Sir Seretse Khama International airport. This service will be provided at Maun International airport during 2019.
  • Approach Procedural Control – This is non-Radar service and is provided at Francistown and Kasane International airports.
Aerodrome Control Service
  • Aerodrome Control – This service is provided to aerodrome traffic at Sir Seretse Khama, Francistown, Kasane and Maun International airports. This service is provided in the vicinity of aerodromes.
